Neighborhood

South Cerney in the Cotswold Waterparks is a lovely quiet village a short drive from the Roman town of Cirencester. South Cerney. The village lies within the Cotswold Water Park, an area made up of over 140 lakes, mostly formed by gravel extraction. Many of the lakes are now used for leisure activities including fishing and sailing. South Cerney Sailing Club is in the Cotswold Water Park.[14] The village is home to the South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre, which was created in 1971 by Gloucestershire County Council as a non-profit organisation to promote outdoor learning and provide low-cost outdoor activities for young people. The nearest town is the Roman settlement of Cirencester which has a strong Cotswold character—Georgian architecture, independent shops, weekly markets, cafés and pubs—plus easy access to countryside walking routes and heritage sites (Roman remains, Corinium Museum). Local amenities (grocers, pharmacy, restaurants) are within a 5–10 minute walk.

South Cerney is best accessed by car; local bus services and taxis connect the village to nearby railheads and villages. The larger town centre of Cirencester is compact and walkable; short local taxi journeys are common (e.g., to Kemble station). Cycle routes and rural lanes suit recreational cycling but expect limited dedicated cycle infrastructure in some places. Local bus operators (Stagecoach/other services) run routes linking Cirencester with Swindon, Cheltenham and surrounding villages.
